Assistant Special Education Manager - Iowa Connections Academy

School Summary Iowa Connections Academy (IACA) is a tuition-free, full-time virtual public school for students in grades K-12 throughout Iowa. The school operates in partnership with the CAM Community School District in Anita, IA. IACA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED. Position Summary and Responsibilities The Assistant Coordinator of Special Education will ensure that the school is providing appropriate programs in the least restrictive environment for all students with special needs. This will include management of the pre-referral and IEP processes, maintain student data, communicate with parents, and ensure that the school operates in compliance with special education law and procedures at all times. The Assistant Coordinator of Special Education will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks: Manage the implementation of the school’s IDEA procedures, including procedures for IEP development, placement, evaluation and re-evaluation of students with disabilities. Maintain documentation within the IEP program and the Education Management System that captures and organizes special education timelines and data; Manage the enrollment process for students with IEPs from inquiry to enrollment and IEP team action. Coordinate the set-up and delivery of IEP mandated services to students; Communicate and consult with all teachers and Learning Coaches regarding the instructional program for students with disabilities or other special needs; Writing initial special education evaluations and conducting initial evaluation meetings; Attending IEP meetings as District Rep; Routinely review IEPs for compliance alignment; Manage a small caseload of students, as needed; Assist in the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of IEP or 504 plan mandated accommodations for students with special needs during state testing events; Communicate directly with parents, as needed, to answer questions; Develop a working knowledge of Connections Academy’s curricular options, and how they can be adapted and implemented to meet specific student needs; introduce new ways of supporting special needs students in a virtual environment; Provide supervision to the special education teachers; Plan, implement, and evaluate staff in-service activities; Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Reside in Iowa Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred) Iowa Administrative Certification (preferred) Evidence of special education team leadership Iowa Special Education Certification A minimum of 3 to 5 years fulltime successful special education teaching experience Knowledge of special education law and compliance Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Customer focused approach High degree of flexibility Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products) Occasional travel (less than 10%)
