Director of SEO and Agentic Search (Home Services / Marketplace)

About the Role

The nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, with over $150 million in annual bookings, is hiring a Director of SEO and Agentic Search to own organic discovery and AI search visibility across its entire brand portfolio. The company is expanding beyond lawn care to become the one-stop shop for all home services, and organic discovery is foundational to that growth. This role reports to the CMO and operates at the intersection of content, technical SEO, product, and AI-powered search. The challenge is clear: rankings are no longer the prize, recommendation is. When a homeowner asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Google AI who to hire, the goal is to be the answer. The director sets the vision, roadmap, and standards for how the company's brands compete across every surface where homeowners and machines form trust. The team is small by design, with a no-code publishing platform that puts thousands of pages directly in marketing's hands. Several strategic functions, including AI visibility tracking, editorial direction, content pruning, and expert sourcing, sit intentionally unowned and waiting to be defined. What the Role Covers

  • Setting organic strategy across the full brand portfolio, including vision, roadmap, and standards for organic search and AI-powered discovery
  • Establishing the company's brands as cited, authoritative sources in Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and emerging conversational search surfaces through answer-first content architecture, entity authority, and structured data
  • Owning large-scale technical SEO infrastructure including Core Web Vitals, structured data, crawl efficiency, and product architecture decisions that drive organic performance
  • Directing editorial work that produces pages, guides, studies, and data-driven resources that rank, get cited, and convert
  • Diagnosing and recovering significant traffic declines across brands, whether driven by algorithm shifts, content quality, technical debt, or AI search cannibalization
  • Building a structured, repeatable approach to AI search visibility and defining how to measure it
  • Building external earned media strategies across journalists, creators, review platforms, communities, and partner ecosystems as core organic strategy
  • Assessing the current team, making talent decisions, and building the team needed for the new direction
  • Partnering with engineering, analytics, data, product, design, and executive leadership to build the technical and measurement foundation organic needs at scale
  • Evangelizing the AI search opportunity across the company, influencing roadmaps and securing investment

Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in technical SEO, content strategy, and structured data at scale
  • Genuine expertise in how LLMs and answer engines discover, evaluate, and cite content, not as a future concern but as current practice
  • Experience building external visibility strategies (earned media, PR, community, review platforms) as core organic work
  • Track record of tying organic initiatives to revenue, CAC, and business outcomes rather than traffic metrics alone
  • Experience leading and building teams, including making hard talent calls and developing leaders
  • Comfort operating across strategy and execution with a small team
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with the ability to sell organic vision to a CFO or a technical SEO audience
  • AI-native workflow, using AI tools daily for research, content, analysis, and workflow acceleration
  • Experience with large-scale, multi-brand organic programs
