[Hiring] Surveyor – Laboratory Medical Technologist @Joint Commission

Remote · Canada Full-time

Role Description The Medical Technologist Surveyor conducts thorough evaluations of laboratory programs across the United States. Applies systems analysis skills and inductive reasoning skills to determine laboratory's degree of compliance with applicable standards-based issues in health care to assess compliance and to identify opportunities for improving compliance.

  • Prepares management reports that clearly link individual standards deficiencies with potential systems vulnerabilities and related organization risk points.
  • Effectively communicates this information in a constructive and collegial style.
  • Participates in other Joint Commission activities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Medical Technologist with a Master's degree in a health-related field.
  • Registered with a nationally accredited organization.
  • Certification requirement: Must hold a CPHQ certification (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) through National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) at time of hire or attain by 12/31/28.
  • Experience in three or more technical areas.
  • Working knowledge of compliance and regulatory accreditation is essential.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience working in a large point of care setting.
  • Experience in leading or participating in regulatory and safety committees.
  • Experience in sales or teaching is highly desirable.
  • Five years of recent experience, including 3 years of direct clinical experience in the appropriate health care setting(s), and 2 years of accreditation or certification leadership or senior management experience.
  • Contemporary knowledge of and experience in health care operations, clinical practice, use of performance improvement methods to assess organizational performance, and current research and trends relative to health care.
  • Experience in an accredited health care organization is preferred.
  • Experience, including direct involvement, in healthcare accreditation surveys preferred.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and direct involvement with a minimum of two Joint Commission surveys preferred.

Requirements

  • Must be able to observe, in real time and without slowing or otherwise interrupting the progress of all applicable types of ongoing health care treatment.
  • Standing for long periods of time, walking lengthy distances, lifting, climbing, stooping, pulling, and pushing to adequately inspect and observe all medical facilities, equipment, and procedures.
  • Walking up and down stairways to test escape routes, assess safety of emergency exits, regulatory compliance, etc.
  • Removing obstructed covers or impediments to equipment or other mechanical areas.
  • Examining small and often dirty printed labels and print on equipment.
  • Must be able to engage in extensive travel, including driving a car to remote locations, flying on small airplanes and into small airports, traveling in all types of weather conditions.
  • Candidates interested in part-time positions must be available to work two weeks per month (.48 FTE) and must provide two weeks of availability for scheduling.
  • .70 and 1.0 FTE full-time positions are also available.
  • All positions require 100% nationwide travel.
