HR Technology Consultant - Computing Services

The HR Technology team is seeking an HR Technology Architect to support and enhance Workday Benefits and related HR technologies. This professional role is responsible for the ongoing configuration, support, development, and optimization of Workday Benefits processes, with a particular focus on annual Open Enrollment, benefits administration, and employee self-service functionality. You will play a critical role in supporting systems and processes that directly impact employees and their benefits experience, while partnering closely with Human Resources, Benefits, Payroll, Information Systems, and campus stakeholders across Carnegie Mellon University. Core Responsibilities: Serve as a technical lead for Workday Benefits configuration, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support the planning, configuration, testing, and execution of the university's annual Open Enrollment process, ensuring a seamless employee experience and accurate downstream integrations. Design and implement solutions based on requirements gathered by HR Business Analysts, Benefits staff, and other stakeholders to improve benefits administration and related HR processes. Review and recommend solution options that maximize Workday functionality while aligning with university policies, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Configure and maintain benefit plans, eligibility rules, enrollment events, life events, benefit reporting, notifications, and integrations within Workday. Document and execute detailed solution designs, including configuration requirements, reporting specifications, security considerations, testing plans, and deployment activities. Partner with functional teams and HR Business Analysts to develop test scenarios and perform unit, integration, and end-to-end testing. Support migration of solutions from test environments to production environments following established change management procedures. Monitor Workday releases and new functionality related to Benefits, Open Enrollment, and employee self-service, facilitating evaluation, testing, and implementation of enhancements. Maintain compliance with university data privacy, security, and governance standards. Provide support during critical benefits administration periods, including Open Enrollment and major benefits-related initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Master's degree preferred. Minimum three years of experience supporting HRIS systems, preferably with a focus on Benefits administration. Experience configuring and supporting Workday Benefits, Open Enrollment, and related reporting tools strongly preferred. Experience supporting Workday HCM or comparable cloud-based HCM platforms required. Experience supporting HR technologies within a higher education environment is a plus.
