Literary Agency Assistant

Remote · South Korea Full-time

WLA Books is a boutique agency seeking a detail-oriented, proactive individual with a strong passion for literary rights. This role involves assisting our agents with domestic and foreign rights, managing databases, tracking payments, handling submissions, editing contracts, and performing various administrative tasks. The ideal candidate should have a strong literary background, be comfortable working remotely, juggle multiple priorities, and be adaptable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Dropbox, and Adobe Suite is essential, and familiarity with Nielsen BookScan and Publishers Marketplace is a plus. This role offers greater responsibility for managing client relationships, deal flow, and departmental operations, as well as collaborating with agents. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support agents and partners with day-to-day operations, correspondence, and priority projects
  • Review and evaluate manuscript submissions
  • Handle subsidiary rights deals (translation, audio, etc.)
  • High-volume contract administration, including issuing and tracking publishing contracts
  • Coordinate meetings, travel logistics, and departmental scheduling as needed
  • Manage the Agency Director's calendar, schedule, and meeting notes
  • File contracts and deal memos
  • Maintain website and internal platforms
  • Fostering excellent relationships with agents and agency clients
  • Prepare Rights Guide for Frankfurt and London Bookfairs

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of publishing or literary agency experience
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset - you anticipate needs and act without being asked
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication; polished in all client and executive interactions
  • Grit, tenacity, and a genuine love of books and the creators behind them
