Radiation Oncology Charging Specialist

Each year, we diagnose and treat more than 6,000 new cancer cases across Olympia, Spokane, Tacoma and Yakima. As we continue to grow, we are building the Pacific Northwest’s most comprehensive and high-value oncology network—projected to double in volume over the next five years. FTE: 1.0, Shift: Day, Schedule: M-F with ability to be remote Coding and/or ROCC certification will need to be acquired within 18 months of hire. Position Summary The Charging Specialist is responsible for assuring charges are accurate and represent the documentation provided and is in accordance with regulatory requirements. By abstracting information from the patient’s medical record the Charging Specialist is able to assign accurate charges for all patient care activities. The Charging Specialist serves as a coaching resource to all oncology staff, physicians and clinical management. Work situations are varied and require a service-oriented individual, with skills in problem resolution, communication, accuracy, organization, and attention to detail. Internal contacts include Patient Accounts & Access, Coding, Oncology staff, Physicians, and Clinical Management. This is intermediate professional level position working under the limited supervision of the Business Manager. Decision-making is required within the scope of the position responsibilities. Major decisions may be subject to review and approval.

Requirements

Associates degree; preferably with a concentration in accounting, finance or other related field Coursework in health information and coding plus certification in coding will be considered in lieu of degree 3 years recent experience in radiation oncology treatment, medical service compliance and coding OR 5 years relevant healthcare experience in progressively more responsible positions may be substituted for education requirements Experience reading and interpreting medical documentation Certified Coding Specialist Professional (CCSP) preferred Why MultiCare Cancer Institute? As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $25.57 - $36.80 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
