Regional Media Officer, CANCER RESEARCH UK

Remote · India Full-time

Cancer Research UK is dedicated to beating cancer and is seeking a talented Media Officer to enhance their storytelling and media engagement efforts. In this role, you will plan and deliver regional media activities, craft compelling press materials, and build relationships with stakeholders to amplify the organization's impact in cancer prevention and awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Write engaging press releases and media pitches, and support press events
  • Handle media enquiries as part of the news desk rota, briefing spokespeople for interviews
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including journalists, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity when working with people affected by cancer and conducting interviews with those with lived experience
  • Develop clear, audience-focused media plans, messaging, and briefings
  • Turn complex science and health information into powerful, accessible stories
  • Use insight and performance data to continuously improve media impact
  • Champion human stories by working with case studies and internal teams
  • Spot media trends and adapt approaches to reach audiences effectively
  • Support thought leadership by drafting opinion pieces and senior content

Skills

  • Writing experience in journalism, media, public relations, health, science, or policy
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics
  • A proactive mindset, with the ability to spot opportunities and solve problems
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Digital confidence and willingness to learn new tools and platforms
