Senior FP&A Analyst, R&D & G&A

Remote · New Zealand Full-time

Every engineering decision has a financial story behind it. You're the person who helps tell it. You don't just build forecasts. You build understanding. You're naturally curious and enjoy digging into complex problems until the data tells you what's really happening. Whether it's cloud infrastructure costs, engineering capacity, vendor spend, headcount planning, or product investments, you know how to connect operational decisions back to business outcomes. You thrive in environments where ambiguity exists, assumptions are challenged, and Finance is expected to be a strategic thought partner, not just a reporting function. Most importantly, you're comfortable sitting across from highly technical leaders, speaking their language, and helping them make smarter investment decisions. If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place. At Expel, you'll serve as the Finance business partner supporting Engineering, Product, Detection & Response, the SOC, and our broader G&A functions. You'll help shape how we invest, scale, and operate while partnering directly with leaders responsible for building and supporting the products our customers rely on every day. We look forward to meeting you. What Expel Can Do For You

  • Give you direct influence over some of the company's largest and most strategic investments
  • Partner you with Engineering, Product, Security Operations, and executive leaders who rely on data-driven decision making
  • Allow you to shape how we think about infrastructure spend, engineering capacity, vendor investments, and operational efficiency
  • Give you the freedom to challenge assumptions and improve how we operate
  • Support an AI-augmented workflow where modern tools help increase leverage and reduce manual work
  • Deepen your understanding of SaaS economics, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and product development

What You Can Do For Expel

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning for Engineering, Product, Detection & Response, SOC, and G&A functions
  • Develop and maintain cost models that connect infrastructure investments, cloud consumption, and operating expenses to business outcomes
  • Partner with Engineering and Product leaders on hiring plans, capacity modeling, contractor strategies, and investment prioritization
  • Lead vendor and SaaS spend reviews, identifying opportunities to optimize costs while maintaining operational effectiveness
  • Deliver variance analysis and forward-looking insights that help leaders understand both performance and future implications
  • Build analytical frameworks that support strategic decisions around growth, efficiency, and resource allocation
  • Partner closely with Accounting, Procurement, and business leaders to improve forecasting accuracy and financial visibility
  • Leverage AI tools and automation to improve analytical throughput and eliminate low-value manual work

What You Should Bring With You

  • 5+ years of progressive FP&A experience, including at least 2 years supporting a GTM organization
  • Strong understanding of SaaS metrics including ARR, LTV/CAC, retention, sales productivity, pipeline conversion, and sales efficiency
  • Experience partnering directly with VP and executive-level stakeholders
  • Exceptional financial modeling and business analysis skills
  • Proficiency with Adaptive Insights (or similar), Excel/Google Sheets, Salesforce, and BI platforms such as Domo, Tableau, or Qlik
  • Experience working with SQL or customer-level data is a plus
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where ambiguity is common and business impact matters
  • A Bachelor's degree or a compelling story
