About The Role Billing is a mission-critical component of Render’s infrastructure, ensuring that our customers are billed accurately, reliably, and transparently as we scale our operations. As a Software Engineer specializing in Billing, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining systems that support our usage-based billing models. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, Product, and Customer Experience to integrate third-party billing platforms, evolve our billing systems, and develop infrastructure that supports Render’s growing business needs. Your role will involve working with large-scale databases and data pipelines to capture, transform, and reconcile usage data, ensuring seamless data flow and system robustness at scale. You will monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvements to enhance billing reliability and accuracy. Additionally, you will contribute to architectural decisions, help define internal processes, and document best practices for billing operations, ensuring our systems remain scalable and efficient as the company grows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience building or operating usage-based billing systems
• Hands-on experience integrating and working with third-party billing platforms such as Orb, Metronome, Stripe, or similar
• Strong proficiency in Go programming language
• Experience working with production-grade SQL or NoSQL databases
• Ability to collaborate effectively across functions with Finance, Customer Experience, and Product teams
• Detail-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability in mission-critical systems
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills to balance accuracy, scalability, and developer experience
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and enhance Render’s usage-based billing systems to ensure accuracy and reliability
• Integrate with third-party billing platforms such as Orb, Metronome, or Stripe and maintain these integrations
• Collaborate with Finance, Product, and Support Engineering teams to ensure precise billing and reporting
• Manage large-scale databases and data pipelines to capture, transform, and reconcile usage data
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvements to billing processes
• Participate in architectural decisions related to billing system integration within the broader platform
• Develop and maintain documentation, processes, and best practices for billing operations
• Contribute to the scaling and evolution of billing infrastructure as company needs grow
